Growin Old
Growin’ Old
My friends all think I’m crazy, they swear that I’m a fool
Say a prayer for me each morning, as they drive their kids to school
But I have seen the real world and I’ve surely felt its pain
And I’ve found domestication is what drives a man insane
Now you can’t keep a wife and have a rock band
Booster seats don’t look good in a Trans Am.
(Chorus)
I still like to party, Lord, I still like running free
Them white picket fences look like prison bars to me
I’ve had my share of dry spells; I stood out in the rain
If I fall flat on my back, well I’ve got just myself to blame
Yeah, I been wore a little ragged, I been spread a little thin
Busted broke and lost all sanity
Growin’ old comes natural, Lord, but growin’ up has been so tough on me.
Now my brother’s got a good wife, a mortgage and some kids
My sister went to college, but heck, I never did
I wear my shirts unbuttoned and my jeans are way too tight
Got a 20 year old girlfriend and she tells me I’m alright
She don’t ever bug me ‘bout my drinkin’
And I don’t ever ask her what she’s thinkin’.
(Repeat Chorus)
I’ve heard it said that age is nothing but a state of mind
You can’t roll back the years and you can’t stop Father Time
Sometimes I think about it as I’m tearin’ up the town
But it will take more than a few grey hairs to slow this ole boy down.
(Repeat Chorus)
Oh Lord,
Growin’ old comes natural, Lord, but growin’ up has been so tough on me.
