One of the finest musicians that Pittsburgh has every produced, Joe Negri, has released his first ever Christmas album, Guitars For Christmas (MCGJ 1014). Nine guitars, from six-string electric and classical guitars to 12-string acoustic guitars, were used in this solo and duo guitar recording that also features Marty Ashby, Executive Producer for MCG Jazz, guitarist and co- producer on Guitars For Christmas.
Guitars For Christmas is set for release on November 10, 2003 on the MCG Jazz label.
This album, recorded at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG) during the Summer of 2003, captures the spirit of the Season. Joe Negri states, “The guitar and Christmas are no strangers, the famous carol ‘Silent Night’ was first performed with guitar accompaniment. The guitar, by its very nature, has a warm and inviting sound and is the ideal instrument for expressing the myriad feelings of Christmas.”
Marty Ashby, commented, “Joe’s voice on the guitar is so clear and full of innate ‘swing’ one can only smile when you hear him. I am honored to have worked with Joe over the years and be a part of this very special recording.”
Guitars For Christmas brings the spirit of Christmas alive with renditions of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” “Silent Night,” “Christmas Time Is Here,” “The Christmas Song,” “Jingle Bells,” and many others.
