The Hat
First time down in Texas,
The sun was raging hot.
I thought I’d grab a cold one,
Cause that would hit the spot.
Drove right to a tavern
And slammed the car in park,
And strode in through the front door
Where it was cool and dark.

And as my eyes adjusted,
I saw this plain enough:
Lovely ladies everywhere
And men just looking rough.
All these sketchy fellas
With girls on either arm.
Another guy explained it.
“Their hats work like a charm.”

In Texas, it’s all about the hat
From the Gulf to Amarillo,
no matter where you’re at.
From El Paso to Abilene,
and every town that’s in between.
Most amazing thing you’ve ever seen.
A stylish hat will catch the ladies’ eye
Rain or snow, your hat will keep you dry.
In straw or felt, in white or black,
the need is just a natural fact.
In Texas, it’s all about the hat.

Everywhere you travel,
There’s something that’s unique.
What people always brag about
To everyone they meet.
New York has the Yankees.
Memphis has great ‘que.
Grand has got the Canyon,
And Nashville’s got the tunes.
But the Lone Star State is different.
It’s not like all the rest.
No matter what they show you,
They’ll claim that it’s the best.
But one thing’s really special,
And stands above the crowd
The thing that sits upon their head
Of which they’re duly proud.

In Texas, it’s all about the hat .
From Houston out to Wako,
No matter where you’re at.
In Dallas every head I’ve seen,
Wearing suits or wearing jeans.
The sharpest thing you’ve ever seen.
A classy hat will catch the ladies’ eye
No need to even ask the reason why.
Round on top or short and flat,
You’ll never want to give it back.
In Texas, it’s all about the hat.
In Texas, it’s all about the hat.
