Biography
Jerry started his musical journey at the age of 10, studying guitar & managed his first band at the tender age of 13. All the players were older and called him the 'kid.' His love of music took him from the Michigan farm to the U. S. Navy wherein 1972 he won the All-Navy Talent Contest. Converting to the Musician's rating in 1973, in 1976 he was selected as Leader/MC & Ld. Vocalist for the U.S. Navy Band's Country Current. He worked side by side with Bill Emerson building & shaping the Country Current's sound & stage shows. Currently retired & residing in Buford, Georgia, he is a member of NSAI & SVSA Songwriter's where he 'hones' his songwriting skills. His
songs cover a wide variety of subjects; the military, historical events, wounded warriors, humor, love, current events & 'true-life' experiences. Being a cancer survivor, he volunteers his time/talent to perform GiveBack Music at Chemo labs, Radiation clinics & local Hospitals. Also, he has shared his music with our Veterans at local VFW's, American Legions & Patriotic events. Samples of his original songs are at www.jerrysongs.com along with selections from his new CD, Songs For Veterans & Patriots. His performances are seasoned with stories from his 29+ years of service, along with vignettes and spontaneous songs. Bookings are available at Jerry's website - www.jerrysongs.com (or) Jerrygill22@gmail.com.
This CD, 'Songs For Veterans & Patriots' was recorded @ Red Cloud Studios in Conover, N.C. The producer was Wayne Taylor. Wayne & I go back to my Navy days, he actually took my place in the Country Current (U.S. Navy Band) in 1988. His input, guidance & creative juices was a beacon of clarity for this musical project. I believe it's one of the reasons there is so much variety on this CD. - Bluegrass, Country, Folk & Southern Rock.
