Got arrested for vagrancy – 6pm Hixson Tennessee
Judge said boy you can’t be caught outside
20 days in jail and a 20 dollar fine

Left my things with a girl name Rose
Loaded dice, my guitar and a sack full of clothes
Much to my surprise as I was walkin’ out the jail
Rose handed em all back- she’d paid my bail

Made my way to Memphis caught a Little Rock freight
Got off to see Irene but Irene was Irate
I said Irene I ran away cause I didn’t know what to do
Just take me back baby and I’ll make it up to you

Times were tough in the south-makin’ money too hard
Made my way back to the freight train yard
Dodged the bulls jumped on the B&O
Time to make a sweet home in Chicago
