She was dressed like the city, a little black faded blue
The way she laughed told me, what I already knew
She was sideways on champagne, dangling the glass
Like she was ready to throw it, and yell “**** the past”

You know when it’s time to give up
You know when you’ve had enough
When all you can get out…drunk
Is “El Paso sucks”

She’s from south South Carolina, a family older than dirt
Too pretty and a little famous, don’t know which one is worse

You know when it’s time to give up..

She always made the worst choice, in whiskey and men
She’d cry on my shoulder, tell me I’m a good friend , again
