My Beautiful Red Roan
My Beautiful Red Roan
I am an old vaquero, I ride the tumbleweed plain
I wear my old sombrero, I answer to my name
Me llamo Jaime Libre, my horse mi corozon (of course)
Rojo, mi amigo, my beautiful red roan
We’ll go to el cantina, sweet feed for my friend
Tortillas, frijoles, pulque ‘til the end
We’ll get a little sleepy, ride back to our camp
Me and my compadre, the moon will be our lamp
It gets a little lonely, a little sad
Ridin’ barbed-wire fence all day, you need felicida
I once had an appaloosa, but he was stolen by
A bandito from Texas, like a frog will snatch a fly
We chased him cross the border, til Rojo couldn’t breathe
I saw it in his sad, brown eyes, we’d never catch the thief
That appy was muy bueno, with spots and a grayish tail
But Rojo, companero, was never known to fail
I love him more than sunlight, I love him more than time
I’ll love him ‘til the cactus flowers turn to apple wine
We’ll go to el cantina, sweet feed for my friend
Tortillas and frijoles, pulque ‘til the end
It gets a little lonely, it gets a little sad
Ridin’ barbed-wire fence all day, you need felicidad
Me llamo Jaime Libre, my horse mi corozon (of course)
Rojo, mi amigo, my beautiful red roan
