Long Winter
It’s been a long winter
And the neighbor hit the mailbox again
you’re sitting there naked on the couch
playing cards and drinking gin

We got the heat turned up to 80
To satisfy your warm-blooded roots
But that box won’t fix itself
So I’m bundled up in cover-alls and boots

there’s a drive-in movie on tonight
like it’s nineteen-fifty-three
I’m sure you’ll want to go
Cause you like Rambo and the popcorn is free

I guess crazy is not the word that I’d choose
But I doubt there’s another to use
To detail the reason
Why I’d rather be quiet than lose

well for now you’re using my copy
of the road for your drink
You say “As long as it’s a hard back,
It’s a coaster, don’t you dare make a stink”

I never did read it
And I’m not up for a fight
with a tempers like ours
that fight could last all night

I’m sure you’ll wanna dancin’
after the show
So I put on my best looking shirt
And that gifted cologne

I guess crazy’s not the word that i’d choose
I doubt there’s another to use
to detail the reason
why I’d rather be quiet than lose

the bennett boys are busy
busting down ice sheets and snow
summertime is coming
But we still got a ways to go
there better be a damn good reason
why the hell that neighbor can’t drive
‘cause I salted this road
all day from seven til five

you say hun’ won’t you give it a break
and come on back inside
so i pack up my hammer and shovel
And swallow my pride

I guess crazy’s not the word that i’d choose
but I doubt there’s another to use
to detail the reason
why I’d rather be quiet than lose
