Late November
She came home from Oklahoma
in what was likely late November
the trees all looked like scarecrows in the spring
She looked just like her mother
or at least that’s what she told me
0n a promise that I’d still look at her the same
But she only had a year here
to get her act together
then on back out
to where she was before
So we smoked slims and watched the sunset
drank corn liquor on a budget
puttin’ good ole boys and housewives both to shame
I think I have a buddy lives in Tulsa
maybe I can see you there next year
It seems the leaves are falling so you won’t be here for long
‘cause darling late November is coming on
We spent most that time together
like kids we learned each other
chased away the fears that we could name
she has a penchant for destruction
and a way with smooth seduction
more sincerity than Saint Gregory the Great
I think i have a cousin lives in Round Rock
Maybe i can see you there next year
It seems the leaves are falling so you won’t be here for long
‘cause darling late November is coming on
And I remembered just last evening
bout a time we’d gone out drinking
got off course and danced the night away
And in time I’m sure you’ll look back
Remember everything
And remember how it feels to be okay
But for now I’ll surely miss it
Contrive of things to say
In the hope that I see you one fine day
‘cause I thought that I might move to where you are now
So then I could see you all the time
But I’d rather be forgotten and chasing just seems wrong
‘cause darlin’ late November has come and gone
yes my darlin’ late November has come and gone
