Dimple Whisky (Grandad John)
Grandad John McGrath
I remember Grandad John could always be found
Defending the people who just weren’t around
I think I’m like him in more ways than one
He liked playing games and having good fun

He drank Dimple whisky and used to smoke
He gave me his ring and would love to joke

Whisky, Dimple whisky

He laid on his death bed and could hardly move
I talked to him freely and I hoped it would soothe
I’m wearing the ring, remember you gave it to me
You see his face was still but he smiled just for me

Grandad John McGrath

Chorus :
He called me ‘my friend’ and was always so kind
He drank old Dimple whisky from time to time
I found an empty bottle from years gone by
I got curious about and I bought some to try

I gazed at the bottle, I sure took my time
I closed my eyes for the first time to try

Whisky, Dimple whisky

I pictured him sitting in a west end bar
Swigging and drinking Dimple from a jar
In the smoke and the haze well his figure stood out
The light caught his face as he turned roundabout
His eyes had a twinkle, a shy grin on his face
The light caught his eyes as he walked out the place

Grandad John McGrath

Chorus

So goodbye Grandad John, I’ll meet you one day
Rest in peace and I’ll drink to you
And I’ll see you along the way
I got whisky, Dimple whisky, on my mind.
