Storm of the Century
Storm of the Century

The weather called for rain but we kept on raisin’ cane
Drinkin’ whiskey late at night and getting’ rowdy
We came home from the show, but little did we know
We was about to see the biggest storm this century

Storm came ‘cross the state it came early it stayed late
The rain came down and didn’t stop for ages
Oh what a fateful day, when the music ceased to play
The night that Nashville shut down all the stages

Rain came down in sheets people runnin’ in the streets
Some climbed high and some did take to swimmin’
The sky was always gray, Grandma Grandpa turned to say
I ain’t seen the likes of this since I’ve been livin’

Cumberland jumped the banks people fillin up their tanks
Just to get the hell outta Dodge and keep on drivin’
But many men so brave, put on their raincoats and they stayed
And they went out lookin’ for the ones survivin’

Chorus

And in that great floodplain many building did get claimed
And a school of fish swam in the Grand Ole Opry
Folks paddled ‘cross the stage raisin’ silent fists of rage
And the radio went silent ‘cross the country

Chorus

Now the years have come and gone and that water has moved on
And the music still is playin’ down on Broadway
Nashville did prevail, we won’t forget the tale
Of the greatest storm we ever saw in history

Chorus
