Biography
Historical Folk artist Hawken Horse makes music for those who love the history and lore of the frontier.
"My latest album, Longhunter, was heavily inspired by the book 'Boone' by Robert Morgan," explains frontman Andrew Scott Wills. "I put myself into a creative time machine to write these songs. I literally put on buckskins to write these songs. I'm not kidding."
The project includes 16 tracks set in the 18th century wilderness of the American frontier. With songs about inspired by Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, James Harrod, the Shawnee Tribe and the Ohio River. The title track, "Longhunter stands as one of the corner stones of the project. The song explores the rugged, dangerous life of a professional hunter.
"I was born and raised along the banks of the Little Miami River in Greene County, Ohio. This is the very ground where the great Shawnee leader Tecumseh was born. I've been inhaling the lore of this land my whole life."

About
HAWKEN HORSE
"Hawken Horse makes music for those who yearn to go back and those who never left," Wills says. "If you love movies like The Last of the Mohicans, Outlander or Jeremiah Johnson, I think you'll love this music."
Nashville based hit-songwriter Andrew Scott Wills put down his Music Row lunchbox (learn more about his career
here) to chase something that has been chasing him for years. He formed Hawken Horse with the vision of capturing the same fascination that has consumed him since boyhood: the American Frontier.
His songwriting puts the spotlight on the good, the bad and the ugly of frontier history with inspiring lyrics that spark an inner yearning for discovery, independence and survival.
The songs tell the tales of famed frontier archetypes like
Daniel Boone,
James Beckwourth and
Kit Carson as well as untold stories of pioneer survival.
The music has received hearty media coverage both in print and online. Print features include
American Frontiersman Magazine, FUR FISH & GAME, and
Frontier Partisans. He has also had podcast conversations with the
I Love Muzzleloading Podcast and the
Muzzle-Loader's Podcast.
The press and music also turned into Hawken Horse writing and recording a song with Clay Newcomb of MeatEater for his Bear Grease Roadshow documentary on the legendary Warner Glenn. Download the song
