11. Remember
Coda - Remember
I remember you reading from your book of poems
The little scar on your breastbone
I remember your sweet cherry wood guitar
Tossed with everything you need in the back of your car
I remember you on the road in the rain
Empty coffee cup and the sound of trains
At two in the morning, the counterfeit dawn
Was the lights of Gary and we drove on
I remember you walking by the river floods
Talking about romance and trucks
I remember you free, free except for dying
Tipping your hat to a blackbird flying
I remember you forthright, breakable and convincing
Your little dog and your vintage Vincent
I remember you setting your sweet guitar on its stand
I remember you resting with quiet hands . . .
