Crash on the Levee (Down in the Flood)
Bob Dylan invited me to accompany him on a series of duet recordings for his “Greatest Hits, Vol. 2” album back in 1971, a session that resulted in four much-heralded sides. This song was among them, and I revisited it here with an up-temp blues/rock feel. I enlisted my son, Adam Traum, to play some swampy slide guitar, along with the stellar rhythm section that played so many of Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles. The original impetus for resurrecting this song into my repertoire was the spate of benefit concerts we did in our region after Hurricanes Irene and Sandy devastated nearby towns.
