Jay Gould's Daughter
Who doesn’t like a song about trains? This sardonic view of the notorious railroad magnate, with unkind (and possibly unfair) verses about his daughter, is a variant of the "Casey Jones" ballad tradition. It’s played with hot Travis-style guitar picking on a Beard resonator guitar, backed by a swinging rhythm section. I can’t remember when I first heard this song, but it had to be way back in the late ‘50s. Maybe Erik Darling’s version? This one has evolved quite a bit from anything I heard back then.
