High Muddy Water
The Greenbriar Boys was one of my favorite bands in the early ‘60s, especially the soulful singing of my dear friend, John Herald. The group, with Frank Wakefield on mandolin and Bob Yellin on banjo, brought great bluegrass music to our city ears. I always loved the way John sang this powerful, heartfelt song of trials, struggles and redemption. Sadly, he lost his own battle with his demons in 2005. I play this on my Veillette 12-string, along with Larry’s swelling pedal steel and enhanced by background vocals from the whole band.
