Church Street Blues

Norman Blake’s much-performed song has become a staple of the bluegrass repertoire. Norman’s and Tony Rice’s flatpicking versions are impossible to touch, so I took a different approach with a fingerpicking arrangement, enhanced by some expertly swinging mandolin and fiddle by Larry Campbell. Like many of the other songs on this CD, we played and sang this tune (mostly) live in the studio and got it in just a couple of takes. Larry added his fiddle part later.
