Careless Love Blues
This version of a classic folk/blues was taught to me by my guitar teacher and mentor, the great blues artist Brownie McGhee. It starts with a solo riff by my buddy John Sebastian before I launch into a fingerpicking intro. The band joins in with a loose, improvisational feel that adds a joyous, foot-tapping bounce. This song reminds me of the hours I spent at Brownie’s apartment on East 125th Street in Harlem back in the late ‘50s, playing guitar with him and mining him for insights into his songs and playing style.
