There's something missing in every life
It's an intangible and yet it keeps us up at night
While we struggle with this yearning
And a mocking world just keeps turning around and around

And it's so elusive - it slips through our fingers
Just beyond our reaching hands we think the answer lingers
And taunts us as we try to figure it out
The secret of life before we die

I don't believe there's anyone out there
Who's watching over what we do
I don't believe in divine answers
There's just me and you

There's pain and suffering in every life
And so many questions about what's truly wrong and right
And we sit here in our ignorance
And we make judgments of no real significance to the rest of the world

My conscience begs me almost every night
To seek truth and kindness in every life
But I'm exhausted as I try to figure it out

I don't believe that we'll face damnation
Living in this evil world that we do
