Get Together
Half a century ago, folk musicians took to their instruments and pens to compose songs of hope and protest, comfort and inspiration. Today, our country is the most divided its been in over 50 years, along political and cultural fault lines that spill across into science and medicine, and exacerbate the long-simmering rifts along racial and gender issues.
For the last three years, Gathering Time, a Long Island folk-rock harmony trio as well known for their interpretation of ‘60s classics as their originals, has been recording an entire album of the most beloved and memorable songs of the folk-rock era.
In this period of upheaval and civil unrest, they’ve decided to release as a single one of the songs from the album, with a timeless refrain and an essential message for the times: “Everybody get together, try and love one another right now.”
A simple plea to a divided nation, that what unites us is greater than what divides us, that what we have in common is greater than our differences, that our better angels are stronger than our worst demons. All in Gathering Time’s signature 3-part harmony.
