When it comes to movers and shakers in the bluegrass world, Full Cord is a super- group on the rise. After winning the prestigious 2022 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in Colorado, the Michigan-based group followed that with another much-coveted honor when the International Bluegrass Music Association named Full Cord its “Momentum Award Band of the Year.” While mandolinist Brian Oberlin notes the band’s music “is new and fresh to the ears of seasoned bluegrass fans,” the bluegrass traditions in Full Cord have deep roots. The group’s members – Oberlin, guitarist Eric Langejans, bassist Todd Kirchner and fiddler Grant Flick – boast decades of musical artistry, with experience in popular performing bands from Michigan to Oregon. And with the recent addition of award-winning, Colorado-based banjoist Ricky Mier, Full Cord is poised to take the next step in its journey as a bluegrass powerhouse: The band’s debut album on Nashville’s Dark Shadow Recordings is set to drop on November 10, 2023.

01 GHOST OF GOOD TIMES (4:30)
Glenn House, Grinshine Publishing, BMI
Ghost of Good Times is a song I connected with the instant I heard it. It's written by my long time friend and music partner, Glenn House and is an honor to put on this record. -Brian
02 MACES SPRING (2:42)
Brian Oberlin, Mandoberlin Music, ASCAP
This song was written on a rainy Tuesday morning on the front porch of the Carter Family Old Home place, with Clinch Mountain looming above, the lyrics flowed like the Holston River. -Brian
03 BLUE TRAIL (3:36)
Brian Oberlin, Mandoberlin Music, ASCAP / Eric Langejans, Cedar Trail, ASCAP
Blue Trail is a tribute to my late father and all the special moments we had on the trail that seemed like nothing, and they turned out to be precious memories after his passing. -Eric
Logan's Farewell is a tune that I wrote at a pivotal point in my life after moving to Boston to go to Berklee College of Music. At the same time I made the decision, a very talented musician about my age from the same area I was from was going to go to Berklee too, and we hung out in Boston and I thought we were going to have a fruitful music relationship. Alas, after a few months, he decided it wasn't for him and left. I had written this five part tune around that same time. This song has a certain section that took inspiration from another song that had "farewell" in the title, so I called it Logan's Farewell. -Ricky
05 I LAUGH WHEN I THINK HOW I CRIED OVER YOU (2:59)
Maxine Fowler, Bob Wills, Hill & Range Songs, BMI
Fans of traditional bluegrass music love the playing of Bill Monroe, while bluegrass is a main influence on my playing, a bigger inspiration for me would be the swing mandolin playing of Tiny Moore. I first heard "Laugh" from the Billy Jack Wills western swing band that was led by Tiny Moore on vocals and mandolin. Clever chorus & lyrics make for a swingin' song. -Brian
06 WILD MOUNTAIN ROSE (3:09)
Brian Oberlin, Mandoberlin Music, ASCAP
Pictorially, this song was born in the mountains surrounding Telluride. The E-minor chord at the top of the chorus proves that not all minor chords are sad! -Brian
07 YELLOW LEAVES OF AUTUMN (3:38)
Kay Trawick, Veda Jo Publishing, BMI
I am a fan of Western Swing ballads and this song comes from the grandfather of the great western swing guitarist and friend, Jonathan Trawick. -Brian
08 TRAIN TRAIN (CARRY ME AWAY) (2:51)
Bill Graham, Songs of Windswept Pacific, BMI (Glen Campbell Music) / Wilton Weller, Universal Music, BMI
Train, Train was a song that Eric brought to the team. It had such a great lope and flow we knew immediately this was a song Full Cord wanted to record.
09 SALLIE’S DANCING (3:33)
Brian Oberlin, Mandoberlin Music, ASCAP
A happy little old time tune written for my flatfoot dancing wife! -Brian
10 REELIN’ IN THE YEARS (3:44)
Walter Becker, Universal Music Corp. OBO Red Giant INC, ASCAP / Donald Fagen, Universal Music Corp. OBO Red Giant INC, ASCAP
The funky beats and atypical harmonies of Steely Dan's music is infectious, Full Cord loved how this one translated to that bluegrass sound and had a go at it and it worked!
11 DIXIE DARLING (3:24)
Alvin Pleasant Carter, Peer International, BMI
A fresh take on one of the Carter family classics. The song's melody and lyrics create a bounce that defines one of Full Cord's signature sounds.
12 BLUE EYES LOOK MY WAY (2:35)
Luke Gitchel, Tamarack Creek Publishing, ASCAP
This song perfectly displays the arduous task of dismissing the feelings for an old love. It just happens to be at breakneck speed to make that process go quicker.
