We chose to feature this piece because it is a favorite of our audiences. We almost named our CD after it! It has playful lyrics, and with the theme of a mountain, it reminds listeners to come to our town to visit the Great Smoky Mountains. Banjo players find it interesting that Frank's banjo is in standard tuning, yet playing in the key of F.
A sweet, bouncy song about a lover disappearing and the whippoorwills and bears commiserating with the abandoned narrator. Though Jim & Jesse made it popular in the bluegrass world, the song predates bluegrass. It was written by Alton Delmore of the Delmore Brothers.
Frank is playing clawhammer style banjo, so despite the bluegrass feel, the playing style is old time.
