Biography
To steal Joan River's opening line, "Can we talk?" [I was the opening act for that funny lady some decades ago at "Upstairs at the Downstairs" during the halcyon days of the cabaret back in the sixties]. Ah, those were, indeed, wonderful days of toe-tapping rhythm tunes and ballads with meaningful lyrics and lilting melodies. Yes, there are songs written today that are in the Berlin-Porter-Loesser-Lerner and Loewe camp, but not many. Rock and roll, rap, hip-hop, etc. speak to the young through their beat and raw emotion, which is not to say that today's musical artists are without merit.
