The Holly and The Ivy

8. The Holly & the Ivy – Unknown composer/Lyrics & French folk melody (first published by Cecil Sharp 1859-1924)

There are a couple of different melodies for this carol, but this particular one Nancy learned as a choir member at Cherokee Junior High in Springfield, MO in the early ‘70s. Mary Lee Lantz led a strong vocal music department, and Nancy still sings several songs learned at age 12-13. Her only regret is that she couldn’t take choir and orchestra at the same time, because her violin playing has gone steadily downhill since grade six.
