The River Anthem
THE RIVER ANTHEM
written by Doug Moreland, ASCAP (composer/author and publisher)

High or low the direction’s the same
Go with the flow or fight the change
Or do what I do I paddle just a little
Just enough to keep my boat floatin’ down the middle
It might go left it might go right
It don’t matter cause it’s my life
No worries no cares
That’s the way the river flows around here

Faster and faster this ol’ world turns
Harder and harder to find a good girl
Do what I did I moved down by the water
Found myself a pretty rancher's daughter
The river rolls the river runs
I like to float along and soak up the sun
She don’t understand why once a month I disappear
But, that’s the way the river flows around here

Just like the river flows, I’m high, I’m low
Not always rocky not always clear
That’s the way the river flows around here

One of my heroes moved to the Caribbean
Sad thing is he’s one of my best friends
No worries no cares
Give me good reason to go down there
Loved his wife’s cookin’ and she loved my dog
I’ll miss the jam sessions and the rules in the hot tub
No clothes last one in gets the beer
And That’s the way the river flows around here

Just like the river flows, I’m high, I’m low
Not always rocky not always clear
That’s the way the river flows around here

You feel like the waters of the world are coming down
Don’t drown there’s a place I found
A hill country road trip to Hueco Springs
Stand on the porch and play the ring game

Three catches you’ll get a free drink
Amigo laughs he tied knots in the string, again
No worries no cares
That’s the way the river flows around here

Just like the river flows, I’m high, I’m low
Not always rocky not always clear
That’s the way the river flows around here
