The Epic
THE EPIC
written by Randy Crouch, BMI

The cowboys picking out on the range
They heard something sound real strange
Looked up and seen a spaceship coming down to land

Some aliens got out and said "Hi
We heard your music as we were passing by
Thought we'd stop and get in on this little jam"

Well the trail boss said "hell why not
There's whiskey to drink and beans in the pot"
"We'll try what you'all got?"
They commenced to pick and grin.

Well, the aliens were ready to play their axes
Not taking any time to tune or practice
They just crossed their eyes and let that music begin

They had three eyes,
Kinda tripe-like skin,
When you think about it, them cowboys looked funny to them

Picked all night sitting around the fire
Getting drunker and drunker, and higher and higher
The fiddling alien said, "I like how that cow-bop swings!"

A thoughtful look came over his face
And he pointed to a spot out there in space
Said, "I know a place where all the horses have wings"

Billy Bob looked at that star
Got his bed roll, packed his guitar
Said "you've got a partner tripe-face
How long will we be gone?"
He said "It don't matter how long we stay
We'll just hit them time warps along the way
We may even be back before the break of dawn"

We'll have a swingin', science-fiction, country-western band
Beaming through the system to the promise land
We'll play on any planet no matter how strange or far
As long as we get free drinks at the bar

Get on out there Billy Bob and play your tunes
Chase them flying horses across the sky with seven moons
Get out and honky-tonk every creature that you can
Your swingin' science-fiction country band

Well they played every major galactic cluster
Even had a few all-star chart busters
They got to thinking how the people might like it back home
Well the folks in the audience never knew
That third eye wasn't put on with glue
Said it wasn't anything new in the Rollin' Stones
They decided earth wasn't home anymore
So they got their friends, they went to explore
Ever since they found that world out there
That's where they have been
Where the horses fly into the setting sun
With them chasing sirens, having fun
Playing music for anyone
That'll just tune in

We'll have a swinging, science-fiction, country-western band
Beaming through the system to the promise land
Everyone is blasted on an ever-lasting high
'Cause we all got our own horse to fly

We'll have a swinging, science-fiction, country-western band
Beaming through the system to the promise land
Everyone is blasted on an ever-lasting high
'Cause we all got our own horse to fly
We all got our own horse to fly
