written by Doug Moreland, ASCAP (composer/author and publisher)
Doug grew up near Marfa, his great-grandfather settling there in the early 1900s. This song was started, then put on a shelf for about 8 years, before Doug got it back out to finish it. He played it with a few different renderings of the lyrics (some may have been recorded live) over the course of a year before he got this final version to where it suited him! The song includes a pretty sharp, personal verse about Doug's generosity and good nature being taken advantage of by a most unexpected ally during that time ("robbed by kin"). And then he rides on!
