The Game of Life
In the heart of the city, in the promised land.
I was sitting pretty, with a winning hand.
I was feelin’ kinda lucky, just standin’ pat.
I was holdin’ aces and sevens; can you imagine that?
Couldn’t keep my composure, a smile crossed my face.
They were workin’ me over, tryin’ to change the pace.
Well I didn’t give in, ‘cause I knew I was hot
I knew that I would win, so I gave it everything I’ve got.
Sure enough I hit the jackpot, I was rollin’ in dough.
I felt just like a hot-shot homeboy, grabbin’ at my mojo.
I cashed in my chips, and then I walked out the door.
I had to ask myself, just what was I strivin’ for?
Oh, you know it’s all just a game,
This “game of life”, we all love to play.
Hard knocks and trouble,
Can’t seem to get enough.
I’ve been livin’ in a bubble,
But I got the right stuff!
One thing I learned for certain, from all the pain & strife.
Sometimes you got to watch your back, it’s the story of our lives.
People try to take a mile, when you give’m an inch.
And they‘re gonna cramp your style, it‘s a lead-pipe cinch.
So don’t be afraid, to stand up and fight.
You got to roll with the punches, if you want to get it right.
Take a chance now and then, it’s the only way.
And you got play your hunches, if you want to make ‘em pay.
Oh, you know it’s all just a game,
This “game of life”, we all love to play.
Hard knocks and trouble, can’t seem to get enough.
I’m livin’ in a bubble, but I got the right stuff!
And just when you think you’re gonna lose it.
Lady Luck shows up, and you know you can’t refuse it.
Hard knocks and trouble, they slip away.
You were livin’ in a bubble, but now you’re back in play!
