Momma always told us Agua Fria’s really pretty in the springtime
When we were boys we always said someday that we would like to travel there
Momma didn’t know when time had passed that I would fall in with the wrong crowd
Dear momma passed away before that fateful day my brother shot me down

I don’t know how it started but the truth is we were always very different
He had a heart so true, he stood up tall and always did his very best
I don’t know why my heart was black & cold and I could be so very vicious
I killed 20 men before the day when I had just turned twenty-four years old

The air is crisp and clear and pretty cactus flowers bloom out in the desert
Clear water forms a rocky stream that flows down from Black Canyon up above
Before this day is done I’ll take a bullet from the gun of my dear brother
An Arizona Ranger, he’s the only one who thought to track me here

I guess I could’ve killed him if somehow I could have found it in my mind to
I stepped into the street at forty feet and then I looked him in the eyes
But I was tired of running, always looking back & forth over my shoulder
I let him win, I died for him, since I don’t care, why should I even try?

Momma always told us Agua Fria’s really pretty in the springtime
When we were boys we always said someday that we would like to travel there
Momma, aren’t you glad I finally got to come and see all of this beauty?
I’m dying in the street but I still smell the pretty flowers in the air
Yes I’m dying in the street but I still smell the pretty flowers in the air
