St. Helens and Harry
“I grew up in the northwest, and I was seven when Mount St. Helens erupted. It was the biggest event in my life to date. I was flabbergasted at how ash was ending up in Oklahoma. But the most interesting part was how this old curmudgeon named Harry Truman, who ran the Mount St. Helens lodge and had two dead wives buried there, was steadfast in his decision to stay despite the imminent danger. He thought it was just a bunch of hype. He was wrong. A folk hero in my book. I needed to tell his story.” - Darren Senn
