Blessed Mother, I Love You!
The lyrics of this song were written originally to the melody of one of Barbra Streisand's songs -- "The Way We Were". I wrote them while I was on my first retreat at the Mother of God Dominican Monastery in West Springfield. That was in June, 2001. Knowing that most people who aren't Catholic think we worship the Virgin Mary, I wanted to make it clear that we do NOT worship her. God is the only One we worship. As the mother of God, we honor her. She is certainly worthy of that. To me, it really is sad that so many people neglect her. :( They should realize that Jesus wants us to love His mother. Her role is to lead us to Jesus. That is her desire. We pray to her because we love her, and we also ask her to go to her Divine Son with our petitions. So, I wrote this song to try to correct some of the misconceptions about how we Catholics feel about the Virgin Mary.
