Push The River
She stood out on the banks, of what used to be her home
And watched the water sweep away everything she's ever known
She knew they were just things, but you could see it on her face
Those teeth marks on her babies crib, could never be replaced
Her pastor stood beside her and when she asked what do I do
He stared out at the water, said listen here my daughter

You can't push the river
So let the water run it's course
Over rocks and under bridges
We've all been there before
Rapids may try to drown you
And wash your dreams ashore
You can't push the river
So get out your oars

Three long nights of shelter, in Montgomery High School gym
Rows of fold-up cots, and neighbors singing hymns
They gather in a circle and bow their heads to pray
Hands held tight, she knew the right words she had to say

A few years later, her home is built back up
Brand new porch, hardwood floors, and a garden that she loves
But she left that water line on the east side of the house
To remind her when the hard times come around

You can't push the river
So let the water run it's course
Over rocks and under bridges
We've all been there before
Rapids may try to drown you
And wash your dreams ashore
You can't push the river
So get out your oars
