Backroads and Driveways
v1. November rain on a cold, Blue Ridge Tuesday
and you drove seven hours through back roads and driveways
All I could think was that this could be bad,
I should've locked my eyes with all the strength that I had.
Why can't I just walk away from this trouble,
and tell me why is bad timing such a part of my world?
Maybe things with you could be easy but
it's 400 miles from here to Virginia.

ch. So don't tell me now that you want something more
when it was all I could do to let you walk out my door.
'Cause I'm headed west come the end of December,
and I don't want your tears to be the last thing I remember.
So say something, any thing to keep me from falling,
to keep me from hoping that it's you who's calling.
So do something, any thing to make me change my mind.
Change my mind.

v2. December came and the snow started falling
and all of that adventure and "what if" kept calling.
All you could say was you'd hate to not know
and you were trying your best to make me stay and not go.
Why can't you just be a little less perfect,
and tell me why have I missed you every night since you left?
I'll send my dreams in an ivy bouquet,
'cause it's 3,000 miles to those backroads and driveways.

ch. So don't tell me now that you want something more
when it was all I could do to let you walk out my door.
I'm headed west come the end of December,
and I don't want your tears to be the last thing I remember.
