Years and Memories
YEARS AND THE MEMORIES
He sat up at his bedside and slid his slippers on
Put he picture in his pocket and walked out to face the dawn.
His clothes were slightly tattered his hair was out of place
As he poured her morning coffee he gazed upon her face.
She told him one morning that she knew her mind was tired
She could see the changes and began to feel the miles
She held his hand and promised that she’d love him anyway
Forgive her , her confusion, for the things that she might say.
The years and the memories have turned to black and white
And though she has forgotten him, He dreams of her each night
He holds her hand and kisses her as if she knew his name
Just like the day he met her the love is just the same.
Dad told me he’d decided back in 1953 that he wanted her forever
And that’s just how it would be .
He told me that the one thing I should never throw away
Is the true love of a woman cause its all ill have someday
I found them Christmas morning lying at each other’s side
Hand in hand and smiling, no breath was left inside
I could see the love there nestled in their warm embrace
As tears of joy and sadness were streaming down my face.
The years and the memories have turned to black and white
Now they’ve gone to heaven, she’ll be with him each night
He holds her hand and kisses her again she knows his name.
Just like the day he met her the love is just the same.
Just like the day he met her the love is just the same.
