At Piano Elizabeth Pickle. She has been pianist for several Gospel and Country groups in east Texas as well as pianist for the church she is a member of here in Palestine. She holds down two jobs by working one in the morning, the other afternoon. Practices once a week with the Southern Joy Singers.

Sitting with guitar is Duane Lively who has been music director for a local Baptist Church,Worked all of his adult life in various jobs. Loves to play guitar and Duane is one that likes to play jokes on his friends.

Next to Duane is Eugene Edward Davis who was raised in Palestine, Texas,now resides in Flint, Texas, and has been singing and playing piano many years. Ed has sung Baritone with other quartets such as Lee Gann quartet and loves people. Ed retired a few years ago from the railroad where he worked for more than thirty years. He is divorsed, but looking for the next Mrs. Davis.

At the podium is Max Martin, pastor of Long Lake Baptist in Palestine, Texas and has pastored other area churches in east Texas. In past years he sang in a family Gospel group and sings great lead as well as some tenor. Max is well liked in Palestine, Texas and is involved in many Christian functions in the area.

On the far right is Homer Bentley who was born and raised in Palestine, Texas.Went to local schools, and wishes he had studied a lot harder than he did. He was born with a slight handicap in his left hand which hinders some physical work, but he tries hard to accomplish anything he does.
Homer has been interested in radio work ever since he was about eleven.In the 1960's a radio manager told him that he would never work in radio to which he answered " You don't know my God!!" he has been host of Gospel music programing now since the late 1970's. He does a four hour radio program on KYYK 98.3 in Palestine, Texas Sunday mornings which is streamed on the net at www.youreasttexas.com and has received calls from two or three countrys. Also he and his brother,Ed, has sung together all their lives in Church. About four months ago he and Max formed the Southern Joy Singers and are having a great time with the group.
