Biography
Baltimore-based acoustic roots quartet Charm City Junction celebrates the season with SNOWBALL, an EP of holiday favorites featuring their whimsical blend of Irish, Old-Time and Bluegrass music. This five-track recording takes the listener on a journey spanning the sublime to hilariously raucous and everything in between. Since forming six years ago, they have reached a level of intensity and sensitivity only close friends can have. Charm City Junction embodies the essence of what acoustic roots music is all about: a shared and burning passion for blazing new trails while respecting the tradition.
The opening track We Three Kings, kicks off with a percussive groove featuring clawhammer banjo wizard Brad Kolodner and fiddler extraordinaire Patrick McAvinue. Bassist Alex Lacquement takes charge with his hypnotizing melodic take on the holiday classic. The bellows of Sean McComiskey’s button accordion enter and the classic Charm City Junction sound arrives. No holiday album is complete without the sing-along Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer which is so playfully performed by CCJ. Brad’s mellow gourd banjo provides the ideal sonic atmosphere on Silent Night. Sean plows through the Hanukkah favorite Rock of Ages (Ma’oz Tzur). The album wraps up with a foot-stomping medley of Jingle Bells and the Old-Time chestnut Breaking Up Christmas. This holiday EP is a perfect encapsulation of the quirkiness and enduring spirit of their home city of Baltimore affectionately known as “Charm City.”
