Bahama Moon
Franz Hepburn was born in Nassau in 1965, started his formal music training with piano studies at the age of seven, and has made a prominent career as an operatic baritone. Also an active composer, Hepburn has had his works performed by choirs and soloists throughout the Caribbean, North America and Europe. His song cycles Introspection, Four Words, and Five Pertinent Questions have been performed by Bahamian soprano JoAnn Callender. Twenty-three years ago, Hepburn was asked by Bahamian actor, playwright, and poet James Catalyn (b. 1940) to set a few of his poems to music. A result of this connection between poet and musician was this musical setting of “Bahama Moon” that paints such a poignant picture of balmy nights in The Bahamas.
