Biography
Vivacious and innovative, C Force is a chamber ensemble offering a unique and intriguing approach to the traditional concept of chamber music. Unusual instrumentation (flute/euphonium/piano) allows for many types of classical music interpretations. Diverse backgrounds contribute to the exploration of all types of non-traditional musical forms.
Since formation in 2008, the group has been featured in concert throughout the islands of The Bahamas. Most recently C Force has been promoting art music of the Caribbean with performances in Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, US Virgin Islands and the USA. Their aim is to showcase little-known classical composers of the Caribbean in original compositions, transcriptions, and arrangements.
Their first CD, Tchaka Mizik, released October 2010, was a reflection of C Force’s unique fusion of cultures and styles. It included traditional classical original works by Caribbean composers, transcriptions of European opera duets, adaptations of folk music of Haiti, and an original composition by C Force member Christian Justilien that showcased the Goombay style of Bahamian music.
Hailed by acclaimed Jamaican pianist Paul Shaw as “Sheer Magic!” members of C Force are unified in a desire to encourage music education in The Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean, and in commitment to the art form of music. Ensemble members Christine Gangelhoff, Christian Justilien, and Christy Lee are faculty members at The College of The Bahamas in Nassau on the island of New Providence.
