Babysitter
Sid- back when I was a kid- was the guy
Who’d come over, keep an eye on me
When Mom & Dad would go out to the Riviera Cinema
He’d watch Wild Wild West with me
We lost touch til I was 30, I looked him up
He was in the city
He wound up different like it always seemed he’d be
And then when he got sick- it really took him quick
As he lay there still what he was to me

Was the babysitter, the babysitter
He took care of me- was sweet as could be
The world’s eyes might criticize
But that friend I loved, that babysitter’s all I see

Kate is a comic- she was Kathy back when I was
8 or 9 she’d come sit now & then
She was funny then too
Smart, she was cool
We’d use my reel-to-reel in the den
Well she never got married, that was weird
But the very next time I saw her it all clicked in
People have asked looking back thru your past
Bob, did you know who & what she’d been?

She was the babysitter, the babysitter
She took care of me- was kind as could be
The world’s eyes might criticize
That friend I loved, that babysitter’s all I see

----INSTRUMENTAL----

Gee I hate to hear a hurtful word
Against my babysitter
Gee it hurts to hear a spiteful word
Against my babysitter
Gee I love to hear good things get
Said about my babysitter
Did Jesus ever say a single thing against my babysitter?
