ECHO MOUNTAIN
As I understand, this idea was presented to Mel Besher by fellow Missourian, Mac Elliott. Then Mac got with Billy Smith who brought the great song to life. Two things I learned about this song; while playing in Wales, we were surprised to find this to be a legendary story with it's origins to be in Wales during the 1700's. There is an actual statue erected in honor of this dog in Wales and the story is taught in Welch classrooms. The second thing is that we were told by Pete Kuykendall, this is the only song ever to be on the BU charts at the same time by two different artist. Without knowing Cedar Hill recorded this song, James King recorded it about 3 weeks later. Our renditions are very different, as it should be because both recordings were recorded with our own personal interpretations. I think that's a testament to a great song.ES.
