Closing Mainstreet Down
Closing Mainstreet Down
1st
I stopped at the quick mart
When I was leaving town
Got out of my truck
And I took walk around
Seen Bakers Hardware
Had finally closed their doors
Someone said they
couldn’t make it any more
80 years in business
The oldest one in town
Now the latest victim
Of closing mainstreet down
2nd
Back before the Walmart
We had johnson’s 5 and dime
Where you could by your groceries
A lawn mower and bike
Everything on the shelf
Was all American Made
Ole man johnson was proud
To keep it that way
Now just an empty building
On the east side of town
A reminder of the past
Before they closed main street down
Chorus
Now some folks blame it on that interstate
That Nobody drives through town
Theres a picture hanging in our cafe
Of Back before they closed mainstreet down
3rd
There used to be a trainstop
at Thompson and main
it would take folks out of town
And bring them back again
Its where soldiers left for war
And where they came home
The crowds would all gather
And flags would be flown
The stations now lone gone
Just a marker in the ground
That tells about a time
Before they closed mainstreet down
There's Nothing left, There closing Mainstreet down.
