Camille
August 1969 the dog days of summertime
Even the Devil thought Virginia was warm
By nightfall it started to rain but it was just the remnants of a hurricane
Soon it would turn into one hell of a storm

Water cut right through the mountainside
God looked away while Mother Nature cried
Left a pathway of destruction from Livingston to Massie’s Mill
The night that Nelson County met Camille

By midnight you could hear the roar as water off the mountain poured
Lightening lit the sky as bright as day
Cars and houses washed right by
You could hear the mother’s desperate cries
As one by one her children were washed away

Chorus

God swore he’d never flood the Earth no more
For six hours in Nelson County they weren’t so sure
