Shadow Man
I know he lives there in the woods,
I see him now and then
He shows himself at twilight and then goes back again.
I wonder where he comes from,
I wonder where he goes.
I wonder why I always feel there's something that he knows.

I sit here in my meadow, so cool and green and bright
where I can see for miles in the morning's golden light.
But down there in the forest, oh, the path is dark and thin.
It look like it gets darker still, the more you enter in.

Shadow Man, I wish I knew
Why I feel like I should follow you
There can't be nothin' that I need to know
worth takin' me where I don't want to go.

His face, it looks familiar
from the little I can see
Sometimes, when the light's just right, he could
almost look like me.
Once he turned and saw me as I watched him from the hill.
A cloud, it dimmed the summer sun,
a breeze, it brought a chill

Shadow Man, what is this mystery
it seems you're always holding out to me?
That beckons at the fading of the light
for a journey to the middle of the night.

Again the twilight cloaks the hills, again I see him there
His summons in the stillness, his question in the air
Will I go back home again and leave him here behind?
Will I take a shadow's hand and let him lead me blind?

Shadow Man, your shadow's near
I can you whisper in my ear,
"Trust the narrow way, come follow me.
Only through the darkness will you see."
"Trust the narrow way, come follow me.
Only through the darkness will you see."
