My baby went to Memphis. to start a new job.
I stayed home to hold down the fort, before it’s gone.
Things are tryin to get us down, but we won’t let it, we’re gonna hold on.

Memphis is far, but my baby is near.
I can hear her voice, whisper in my ear.
She’s Tellin me to hold on, to all…. that we got.
All that we got.

They say down in Memphis, there are lots of things to do.
Any night you can go, hear bands playin the blues
What a life to have? What a life to live? It’s For me.
