Brett Ryan spreads the gospel - of soul. With the release of his St. Cecilia Soul, the award-winning singer and songwriter delivers a sparkling album of original tunes, drenched in old school soul and R&B.

Recorded in the gorgeous St. Cecilia Studio outside Halifax, the album pulls together some of the region's best musicians, led by keyboard legend Doug "Dr. Music" Riley. Add a double-barrelled sax attack, a world-class rhythm section and a soulful back-up choir, and these dozen tunes percolate with energy, passion and a sheer joy of making music.

Tracked over a few late summer days with Hayward Parrott co-producing, the music explores the fertile crossroads where pop, gospel, soul and rhythm & blues meet. The studio itself, built in a funky, refurbished church overlooking the ocean, brought an earthy vibe to the sessions.

These 13 songs are simple and poignant reflections on life, art and love, fired with a passionate groove that comes with living life to the fullest.
