I. In the Carolina hollow where I was born, you could hear my mama sing.
With my daddy playing on his guitar, he could make the mountains ring.

REFRAIN:
Love is the heart of country music. Both the good time and the times somebody done you wrong.
From the beauty in the skies to the pain that’s in your eyes,
That’s what it takes to make a country song.

II. Well the years flew by and we kept on singing through the good times and the bad.
And they scrimped and saved so I could go to school and get a little more than they had.
I didn’t wanna go but I couldn’t say no, so I was off to Western State.
I figured I would study music and go on to be a country great.
III. I took country & western 101, I got all set to dig in.

(And I said, um, excuse me sir, I don’t mean any disrespect, but you know that…

And though they don’t read a note of music, they’re the best teachers I’ll ever have.
(‘Cause they know that…)

From the beauty in the skies to the pain that’s in your eyes,
That’s what it takes to make a good old country song.
