Windmills & Wheatfields
I had the idea for the title of an album project before I had written the song. I knew that windmills and wheatfields was about my experiences growing up on a farm in North Texas.
We spent a lot of time on the family farm near Decatur, Texas where there was a hill I enjoyed sitting on because of the view that looked out for several miles over the Texas plains. There was an old farmhouse that was built in the 1880's and it had rifle slots the walls. The older folks would tell stories of the days when Comanche's roamed the area. There was also was a ravine, which we called a canyon, on the farm where we would ride our horses and play cowboys and outlaws.
The idea for the song was in the back of my mind for several years before I brought it up at a writing session with my good friend Bo Jamison. Between the two of us we finished it in an afternoon and naturally it became the theme song for the CD.
