Steam whistle blowing, flags waving in the crowd
Daddy was so happy, Momma was so proud
The families all went down and line the railroad tracks
To watch the boys all leaving, including brother Jack

And they were doing their duty, for freedom they would fight

They would teach ’em how to shave, and then train them to attack

I can still remember, the smell of that train
Why everyone was so happy, I cannot explain
