Where The Train No Longer Goes

WELL I ONCE
WAS A COAL MINER’S SON
HE WORKED ALL DAY
‘TIL THE MINING WAS DONE
THEN THEY SHUT DOWN THE MINE
ON THE TOP OF THAT HILL
MY LIFE AIN'T BEEN THE SAME
PROBABLY NEVER WILL

OH WHERE THE TRAIN (OH WHERE THE TRAIN)
NO LONGER GOES (NO LONGER GOES)
WHERE IT STOPS (WHERE IT STOPS)
NOBODY KNOWS (NOBODY KNOWS)
UP AND DOWN (UP AND DOWN)
AND BACK AGAIN (AND BACK AGAIN)
AIN'T SEEN A COAL TRAIN
SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHEN

MY DADDY DIED
BENT BROKE AND BLUE
WORKIN’ THE MINE
WAS ALL HE KNEW
MY MAMA TRIED
TO MAKE ENDS MEET
BUT SHE COULD BARELY AFFORD
SHOES FOR OUR FEET

OH WHERE THE TRAIN (OH WHERE THE TRAIN)
NO LONGER GOES (NO LONGER GOES)
WHERE IT STOPS (WHERE IT STOPS)
NOBODY KNOWS (NOBODY KNOWS)
UP AND DOWN (UP AND DOWN)
AND BACK AGAIN (AND BACK AGAIN)
AIN'T SEEN A COAL TRAIN
SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHEN

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

I LEFT THAT TOWN
WHEN I TURNED EIGHTEEN
THE SADDEST DAY
I'D EVER SEEN
THE SHOPS AND PUBS
ARE ALL CLOSED DOWN
THERE AIN’T NOTHIN’ LEFT
OF MY OLD HOME TOWN

OH WHERE THE TRAIN (OH WHERE THE TRAIN)
NO LONGER GOES (NO LONGER GOES)
WHERE IT STOPS (WHERE IT STOPS)
NOBODY KNOWS (NOBODY KNOWS)
UP AND DOWN (UP AND DOWN)
AND BACK AGAIN (AND BACK AGAIN)
AIN'T SEEN A COAL TRAIN
SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHEN

OH WHERE THE TRAIN (OH WHERE THE TRAIN)
NO LONGER GOES (NO LONGER GOES)
WHERE IT STOPS (WHERE IT STOPS)
NOBODY KNOWS (NOBODY KNOWS)
UP AND DOWN (UP AND DOWN)
AND BACK AGAIN (AND BACK AGAIN)
AIN'T SEEN A COAL TRAIN
SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHEN
