People sometimes ask me why at my age am I still single. While there are a myriad of reasons for this, one reason that stands out in my mind is my penchant for falling in love with women who are not so easily obtainable.
Not that they’re in a higher social class or that they belong to any sort of exclusive club, but I seem to gravitate more to women who are distant.
Not psychologically or emotionally, but topographically.
I will meet a woman, usually on a business trip or vacation, and me being in a foreign place will feel a higher sense of self-esteem, attractive to the opposite sex as an intriguing world traveler, not just some guy from Burbank.
My charms, having come out of hibernation, will hypnotize this woman, who, possessing all of my requirements: single and female, will be transformed into someone who desires me, thus making her even more desirable to me.
After the initial spark is ignited and I have returned home, I being a quote-unquote good guy, will continue the phone calls and trips to visit, fully believing that although we are geographically challenged, we are also meant to be.
This has happened on more than one occasion. In fact, at last count on more than five occasions. Nevertheless, I continue to believe in the fantasy of the dreaded long-distance relationship.
It always seems to make perfect sense to me at the time.
I’m wearin’ all the east coast styles for you
Rackin’ up the frequent flyer miles for you
Cause I’ve fallin' like a little baby child for you
My Cross Country Love
Dropping Quarters in a well for you
Making wishes as they fell for you
Five-hundred extra minutes on my cell for you
My Cross Country Love
You don’t have to play hard to get (She already is)
Or RSVP your regrets (You already know)
Next time I’m in line for a jet
I’ll try not to forget, you’re the closest one yet
So I’ll be wishin’ on a star for you
That my heart can reach that far for you
And that there’s nobody special where you are for you
My Cross Country Love
The girls who live in my neighborhood (They know who they are)
Seem to think I don’t have the goods (That’s a matter of opinion!)
They all want to “Go Hollywood”
Sometimes I think I should stick with bachelorhood
But it’s all gonna be worthwhile for you
When I walk down the aisle for you
Cause I know I’ll have gone that extra mile for you
My Cross Country Love
I’m in Love with My Cross Country Love
Well the good news is that I’ve met someone
And she lives in town.
Things are going well.
In fact things are getting serious.
So it’s time for me to take the next step.
So next week, I’ll be moving to New York City.
Cause I’m in Love with my Cross Country Love!
